Winter

Vaujany is linked to the extensive Alpe d’Huez domain by one of the largest cable cars in Europe. Lift capacity is superb with snow cannon guaranteeing a full season’s sport. The result is that all standards of skiers and boarders are catered for with a wide variety of on-piste, and superb off-piste runs. Skiing in Alpe d’Huez includes the 13km Sarenne, the longest black run in the Alps. Despite its status the Sarenne is relatively straightforward skiing, far more so than the fearsome Tunnel, a must for advanced skiers ‑ if only for bragging rights in the bar afterwards!

Alpe d’Huez features a huge variety of runs including an extensive snow park. Vaujany benefits from the Montfrais ski area which includes a purpose-built ‘Jardin de neige’ for complete beginners. Vaujany also has a snow park.

We have found the local ESF ski school to be excellent, with a wide range of classes and tuition arrangements on offer and good spoken English. There is a British member of staff in the office which is helpful for pre-booking or any queries in resort. The village also has a newly built and very well regarded Garderie for younger children, with options to combine this with the ski school for some children.

Lift passes bought in Vaujany can cover the entire Alpe d’Huez domain. Thanks to an agreement with local ski shop Atou’ Sport our guests benefit from a 20 per cent discount when hiring snow equipment. In addition customers can leave shoes at the shop while skiing, and skis and poles at the shop overnight meaning there’s no need to take them up to the flat at the end of a tiring day’s activity.

Access to the village’s huge swimming pool is free with some ski passes. The Espace Loisirs also provides ten-pin bowling and an olympic-sized indoor ice rink. A visit to watch the Vaujany Grizzlys ice hockey team in action is a must!
